The Weeknd, Dua Lipa reign as Spotify reveals top songs, albums, and artists of 2020

Another year, another Spotify Wrapped roundup. The mammoth streaming platform has released its statistical year in review, which not only highlights 2020’s most-streamed artists, but also a staggering yet not-so-surprising 1,400% increase in work-from-home playlists and listening.Bad Bunny, Drake, J Balvin, the late Juice WRLD, and The Weeknd took the cake for the most-streamed male artists around the world, while Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Dua Lipa, and Halsey emerged as the five most-streamed female artists globally. The most-streamed songs of 2020 followed these trends, with The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” taking home the title of most-streamed song with more than 1.6 billion plays. A somewhat predictable addition to the list of the year’s most-streamed songs came from Imanbek‘s astoundingly catchy remix of SAINt JHN‘s “Roses.”Post Malone‘s Hollywood’s Bleeding paid its digital dues as well, netting the New York rapper the third spot for the year’s most-streamed albums globally. The most-streamed album of the year went to Puerto Rican rap star Bad Bunny, whose collaboration-heavy YHLQMDLG was spun more than 8.3 billion times.Additional trends saw podcasting achieve its expected boom, with the freshly transplanted Joe Rogan Experience ranking as the most popular podcast in the world. Other podcasts of note included TED Talks Daily, and The Michelle Obama Podcast.
