“The Little Mermaid” is the beloved story of dreams. It is a fairy tale that understands that although the world may say that you don’t belong, your perseverance, a little magic and love can take you anywhere but it will always take sacrifice. Ariel is not only a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure, the youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, she is black. It took a lot of courage to display my childhood Disney movie this way. We all need an hero and sometimes the hero we need is within us. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land but ultimately places her life and her father’s crown in jeopardy. The film stars singer and actress Halle Bailey as Ariel, two-time Academy Award® nominee Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian and Oscar® winner Javier Bardem as King Triton.
Not only will the trailer remind you of being young snuggled in front of the family television, but it will instantly make you wish you could be apart of that world. Check out the trailer below:
