It’s SG Lewis‘ world and we’re all just living it. For many, this was apparent after Lewis’ two Clairo features, “Throwaway” and “Better,” and his AlunaGeorge-assisted “Hurting” hit streaming platforms. For others, it was clear after “Chemicals,” released in April. Now, Lewis’ latest, “Impact” is proving to be the cherry on top.
The most unexpected collaborations are often the most synergistic, and “Impact” is just the latest example of this musical phenomenon. Coalescing contributions from Robyn and Channel Tres, the cut has a tempered euphoria to it, and as seasoned Lewis listeners can attest, this is one of the London-born songwriter’s sonic signatures.
Tres’ commanding, spoken verses provide textural contrast to Robyn’s sharper soprano vocals, culminating in a dynamic cooperation that stands apart from some of the producer’s prior endeavors, but nevertheless is distinctly SG Lewis in sound. “Impact” is Lewis’ second original of 2020, proving to be a formidable follow-up to “Chemicals.”
