Matthias Meyer and Budakid return to Watergate Records with another powerful collaboration, ‘Saye’ / ‘System’ EP, released on 14 October, following last year’s acclaimed ‘Sweet Ease’ / ‘Hybrid Society’ which reached No.1 on Beatport Indie Dance and featured in numerous DJ sets.
Opening track ‘Saye’ captures the inventive and sparkling production both Berlin-based artists have become renowned for. Hypnotic organ chords are deployed alongside euphoric vocal chops and jagged, driving beats to create a truly memorable track which is already generating a huge reaction on dancefloors when it has been road tested in their recent DJ sets.
The stirring and atmospheric ’System’ balances ’Saye’ perfectly. Budakid’s haunting vocal is presented alongside glitchy, etherial synthesizer sequences, with the central theme the idea that we are living in a broken system. Matthias Meyer and Budakid’s previous collaboration included support from WhoMadeWho (who included ‘Hybrid Society’ in their BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix), John Digweed, Joyce Muniz, Hernan Cattaneo, and Henry Saiz.
