Good Morning Mix: Skrillex and friends close out Ultra 2015 in grand fashion

On February 27, 2015, Skrillex and Diplo consummated their union under the Jack Ü banner with their alias’ first and only album, Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack Ü. The LP would go on to become one of the most lauded in dance music history after it debuted at the No. 1 position on Billboard‘s Dance/Electronic album chart. Safe to say, Jack Ü had fans waiting for their first live show announcement immediately upon the album’s release, and fans got exactly what they wanted (and then some) just over a month later in surprise fashion. The scene: Ultra Music Festival 2015, with Miami’s famed Bayfront Park playing host. Skrillex had been announced as an Ultra headliner months earlier, and the excitement was palpable. Fresh off of the release of his game-changing solo album, Recess, the year before, Skrillex was at the peak of his popularity. To no one’s surprise, he was able to lock down the coveted Sunday night closing set time. The hour that followed will forever be remembered as one of the most star-studded sets in Ultra history. The list of surprise guest appearances is a who’s who of musical talent: DJ Snake, Diplo, Kiesza, Puff Daddy, and Justin Bieber to name just a few. During the opening minutes of his closing set, Skrillex took the stage solo to play a range of songs we now know and love as dubstep classics. DJ Snake became the first guest of the evening when he joined Skrillex, sending the crowd into a frenzy with festival staples such as “Turn Down For What” and “Get Low.”Later, Diplo entered the picture and together, he and Skrillex put on the first Jack Ü show since the album’s glorious release. To help celebrate, vocalists featured on the album came out to perform alongside the dance music icons. Among them was Kiesza, who lent live vocals to “Take Ü There,” Kai, who joined to perform “Mind,” and CL, who performed the duo’s pre-Jack Ü-era collaboration, “Dirty Vibe.” Puff Daddy crashed the party in his only Ultra appearance ever, during which he delivered his hit song, “It’s All About the Benjamins.” Justin Bieber made his presence known when he set fire to the Miami night with a performance of “Where Are Ü Now.” Take a trip down memory road to enjoy this iconic set from Skrillex and friends below.Dancing Astronaut commemorates what would have been UMF’s 2021 installment with a two-week run of Ultra-themed Good Morning Mixes.
