Fred Gibson aka Fred again.. has become one of dance music’s most talked-about artists. From playing a popup show at a New York City warehouse alongside Swedish House Mafia to commandeering a viral Boiler Room set to setting up shop in a halal cart following one of his recent shows at Terminal 5, Fred again.. has been everywhere, and that’s not about to change anytime soon, thanks to the arrival of his third studio album, Actual Life 3. Released October 28 via Atlantic Records, the follow-up to his sophomore LP, Actual Life 2 (February 2 – October 15 2021), extends his tradition of translating recordings of his daily life to highly emotive, masterfully produced works of art. The Actual Life 3 rollout warmed up with five pre-album singles, among them, “Danielle (smile on my face),” “Bleu (better in time),” and “Clara (the night is dark).” And as a full listen of the LP indicates, this preview period was only an indicator of the depth to come on Actual Life 3. On the album, Fred again.. takes his audience on a journey that traces all the way back to April 2020, when the early formations of his debut LP Actual Life (April 14 – December 17 2020), began to take shape. By working in samples of songs from his freshman album, as on “Mustafa (time to move you),” Fred again.. adds continuity to Actual Life 3, allowing the LP to exist as a cohesive extension of the story rooted in April 2020. Rounding out 2022 and the Actual Life 3 rollout with a sought-after North American tour, Fred again.. asserts what the dance/electronic industry has already come to know: he’s one of its brightest emergent talents, and audiences are responding accordingly.Featured image: The Holy MountainTags: actual life, actual life 3, Atlantic Records, Four Tet, Fred again.., skrillex, Swedish House Mafia
