deadmau5, Skylar Grey unite on ‘Resident Evil’ offering, ‘My Heart Has Teeth’

Video-game-turned-Netflix-television-series Resident Evil premiered on July 14, the same day that its official soundtrack hit streaming services. Although composer Grégory Reveret is responsible for producing 14 out of the 15 album inclusions, deadmau5 and Skylar Grey notably come together for the soundtrack’s finale, “My Heart Has Teeth.” “Dystopian suburbia is the kind of vibe I had in mind when making this song,” deadmau5 expressed in a statement. The Canadian producer’s latest work-for-hire strays from his typical electronic sound design; “My Heart Has Teeth” is a cinematic, down-tempo contribution to the new Netflix series that evokes an electro-pop feel that aligns with Resident Evil‘s action-adventure-horror genre. “It’s been pretty cool because I like that weird, corporate overtone of this entity that owns the village, if you would. I just imagine what that would be like while roughly composing the song with, of course, the vocal accoutrement of Ms. Skylar Grey. She’s an amazing talent to work with, and she just nailed the lyrics,” deadmau5 added. The mau5trap label head is currently gearing up for his “We Are Friends” tour, to kick off at The Met in Philadelphia on July 15.
