The string of SG Lewis debut content continues with the Brit’s first-ever Essential Mix

It’s safe to say that February 19 wasn’t an average day for SG Lewis, who could be found doubling down on the debut content, turning in not only his first studio album, times, but also his inaugural BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. In the hallowed halls of BBC Radio 1 fame does SG go, for an expansive stint that occupies a two-hour runtime—per Essential Mix custom. Put simply, SG’s Essential Mix is a finely distilled flex of his never-stale sonic approach. In his 120 minutes of curatorial control, the triple-threat singer-songwriter-producer roves through disco and house selections—some more old-school in intonation than others—while not heavily relying on the depth of his own catalog. In fact, you’ll only find three of SG’s own originals in the Essential shuffle. Aside from “Rosners Interlude,” Aluna‘s “Hurting” acapella, and “Impact,” the mix is rife with content from other creators, such as Mall Grab, Com Truise, and 2 Bad Mice. SG fans should be accustomed to always expecting something fresh from a tastemaker who’s entered Album of the Year conversations with verve, and now is no exception. The flux of fresh SG material further continues with his assist on “Crossing Paths,” of Kartell’s new EP, Daybreak. Both are available below and incontrovertibly support the following claim: it’s a good time to be an SG Lewis fan.Read Dancing Astronaut‘s review of times here.Featured image: Harvey PearsonTags: , , , , ,
