The Avalanches and Tony Hawk partner for rare X-ray vinyl fundraiser

The Avalanches have come together with skateboarding icon Tony Hawk to offer a one-of-a-kind vinyl record to a lucky winner. The translucent vinyl features a scan of Hawk’s dislocated fingers, containing the single “Reflecting Light,” from The Avalanches’ forthcoming third album. Partnering with Melbourne vinyl factory Small Run, the Australian act have produced a limited X-ray film pressed vinyl of their single. The special edition 7-inch record spawns only 12 copies; however, only one of them contains an X-ray of Hawk’s June skating injury. The Avalanches also revealed that the concept is a tribute to the “bone records” of the Soviet era, which witnessed records being cut onto X-ray film in order to be smuggled past authorities. The fundraiser will go towards the skate pro’s nonprofit, the Skate Park Project—an organization that supports underserved communities through advocating and building high-quality public skateparks. Donations of any amount will count as entries towards winning the prize. The deadline for entries will be October 2 and the winner will be revealed on October 6. Learn more and enter here.
