2020 has been met with a more than generous serving of sour notes, but Tchami lining up his first-ever artist album has decisively not fallen into that bracket. After disclosing the existence of Year Zero and doubling up on two-sided singles, “Proud” / “Ghosts” as well as “Born Again” / “Buenos Aires,” earlier in the year, the Parisian future house originator is picking back up right where he left off before the summer, sharing “Faith” with Marlena Shaw as the album’s fifth addition.With Year Zero slotted for exhaustive dispersal before the year officially caps off, “Faith” could not have served as a more apropos choice from Tchami to restart the album’s escalation. Sampling Marlena Shaw’s 1969 staple, “Woman of the Ghetto,” Tchami prompts what could easily be branded as a darker counterpart to “Adieu,” slightly treading back towards his more traditional scheme that he had promised would be on the LP. “Faith” knocks off any and all benchmarks when grading a highly-craved Tchami winner, pulling Shaw’s soul-driven vocals into an indefectible future house foreground.
