Telepathic Instruments launched its new series, In the Back Seat, with an intimate performance from Kevin Parker recorded inside a vintage limousine rolling through Los Angeles. The debut episode features him exploring a soft, reflective version of Cat Stevens’ “Wild World” using Orchid, the songwriting tool he designed and developed over the last decade. The setting is stripped back and quiet, which gives space for the way Parker interacts with the instrument and how ideas take shape while the car moves through the city.
In the Back Seat is built around these unscripted moments.
Each episode brings an artist into a contained space where the session can unfold without pressure or fixed expectations. Parker’s performance sets the tone for what the series aims to highlight: small sparks, unfinished thoughts, and the way Orchid supports those ideas without getting in the way.
Several upcoming episodes will feature artists from across different scenes and backgrounds, but this first one frames the series around the tool that started it all.
Orchid’s Role in the Performance
Orchid began as Parker’s private songwriting assistant more than a decade ago. He used it as a way to generate chords and explore ideas without needing to map out progressions in detail. Over time, those early sketches developed into a full instrument shaped with input from a wide range of collaborators and users. The current version features three synth engines, a pattern system, a flexible chord generator, and an interface designed to help musicians move quickly from a starting point into a working draft.
The tool has already found its way into a wide range of modern releases. Orchid has been used in Kid Cudi’s “Submarine,” Don Toliver’s “Call Back,” and work from artists such as Janelle Monáe, Diplo, Fred Again, Joy Anonymous, Logic, Mark Hoppus, Gracie Abrams, Murda Beatz, and Sara Landry. Its adoption continues to grow as more writers and producers look for ways to speed up sketching and explore new harmonic directions without breaking their workflow.
Orchid’s Black Friday Availability

Telepathic Instruments noted that Orchid, which regularly sells out, is available during the Black Friday window. This run is the final opportunity to buy it until April 2026. For songwriters and producers who have watched Parker use the tool in studio footage or during writing sessions, this window offers a clear path to pick it up without waiting for the next production batch.
