Martin Garrix held us over throughout the pandemic with a handful of incredible streams—going everywhere from his Amsterdam rooftop to Tomorrowland’s Around the World—but on August 27, the STMPD RCRDS boss was finally able to get back to doing what he does best, making his in-person return to the stage for the first time in a year and a half. Commissioned with shutting down Electric Love’s second day in Austria, Garrix’s hour-long set was thankfully streamed for those unable to be in Salzburg during the weekend.Garrix had previously reassured everyone that he’d still been working on music with his staple progressive house and bigroom-leaning sound, but wanted to hold off on showcasing any of it until he went back out on the road. Those questions were immediately laid to rest when Garrix reintroduced himself to the Electric Love crowd, opening his set with an unbelievable reunion tie-up with the vocals of none other than John Martin, with some saying that Matisse & Sadko may have some involvement. Four other IDs were presented during the 60-minute showing, including a mind-blowing ID that’s confirmed to be from himself, Julian Jordan, and Tinie Tempah, as well as speculated STMPD releases from Julian Jordan again, MNNR, and RetroVision. Garrix also crowdtested his rework of his EURO 2020 anthem and AREA21’s latest single for the first time, adding a handful of fresh edits in the mix with “Pizza” and “Hold On” plus last year’s blend of “Higher Ground” and “Forbidden Voices.”Featured image: Louis van BaarTags: electric love, Martin garrix
