As the coronavirus pandemic continues to derail just about every live music event slated for the 2020 festival season, many promoters and event brands are getting creative to present health-conscious alternatives to fans hoping to get their music fix. Although live streamed festivals were originally the most popular solution, there has recently been a surge in drive-in music events. Following the lead of Germany’s viral event, Disco Donnie, Insomniac, and ‘Loop Daddy’ Marc Rebillet, have hit the road to host their own socially distanced concert tours. Now, global giant, Live Nation, is getting involved.
Live Nation’s newly minted, nine stop concert series, Live From the Drive-In, will take place from July 10-12 in Nashville, Tennessee, featuring performances from Brad Paisley, Nelly, and Yacht Rock Revue, among other artists. Speaking on the exciting new concert opportunity, Tom See, president of Live Nation Venues US-Concerts, said,
“We’re giving you what’s about the size of a double-car garage where you’re going to be able to park your car, get out of your car, and have a great tailgating [experience] for you and your friends [while] listen[ing] to music through professional PA and amazing audio and video display. It’s really a different aspect of drive-in and live. It’s highly experiential.”
Live From the Drive-In is the product of months of work on Live Nation’s end to devise a safe alternative to the standard in-person live concert format, according to See. Regarding the measures that Live Nation will take to stymie the spread of coronavirus at the events, all venue staff will be required to wear masks, and attendees are also expected to wear masks upon arrival.
Admission will be granted in a contact-less manner, with tickets scanned through attendees’ car windows. Once ticket holders arrive at their prespecified tailgate areas, they will be permitted to remove their masks. A maximum of four people per car will be granted entry to the respective shows.
