KUČKA enchants with UK garage-inspired single, ‘Messed Up’

KUČKA is coming off a live performance of “ESCAPE” with Flume at Coachella with a reverent display of her aptitude for sound design and lyrical virtuosity. “‘Messed Up’ is the first release from a new record I’ve been working on… The new tracks have a bit of a different vibe to them from Wrestling—more fast and loose, and a bit more outwardly expressive,” KUČKA exclusively told Dancing Astronaut. Her first release of 2022, “Messed Up” is a reverberating dance cut that features a dazzling array of textures, distortions, and a tinge of UK-garage. However, even amid these ear-catching elements, it’s the songstress-producer’s other-worldly octaves that ultimately captivate audiences.
The track’s overarching narrative centers on “situations that we can get into that we know are bad for us, but it’s also the reason that we are drawn to them,” KUČKA said. The accompanying visual for “Messed Up” is a psychedelic, lucid dream. Bodies crash into each other in hues of purple, pink, and blue as they mosh along a stage, clamoring in synchronization to an enchanting sound arrangement. Self-written and composed by the Aussie vocalist herself, “Messed Up” bolsters KUČKA’s status as an innovative creator by underscoring her poignant songwriting and bewitching, labyrinthine productions.

The new single follows her acclaimed debut album, Wrestling. KUČKA is currently touring Australia; listeners can come along for the ride by following the independent artist on Instagram. In the meantime, “Messed Up” can be streamed below.
