KSHMR, born Niles Hollowell-Dhar, Armaan Malik, and Eric Nam have teamed up to release their new joint single, “Echo,” in celebration of Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. The track was put together virtually over the course of the pandemic, with KSHMR and Malik recording the first demo in-studio, then sending it to Nam to ask if he were interested. “Echo” sees KSHMR leaning into a more pop-oriented sound, with Malik and Nam trading off verses. KSHMR challenges himself to step outside of his usual production techniques to create a track that highlights both Malik and Nam’s strong vocal work. With the track being recorded remotely, KSHMR was able to remain in the United States while Malik returned to India and Nam remained in Korea. During a recent interview with GQ India, the three expressed that they hope to be able to see future collaborations with more Asian and Pacific Islander musicians and artists. KSHMR released his debut album Harmonica Andromeda in March, however, he has been a notable force within the music industry since his beginnings with The Cataracts, who released their hit collaboration with Far East Movement, “Like a G6” in 2010.
