From voice note to Repopulate Mars, Mau P begins new era with ‘Drugs From Amsterdam’

It’s officially a new era of Maurice West. As with most Repopulate Mars releases these days, anyone that’s been to any size festival throughout the summer has likely heard “Drugs From Amsterdam” in some way, shape, or form. Originally conceived while he was literally “off [his] face” in the middle of the Dutch capital back in April and decided to pull out his phone to record a quick voice note, the single ushers in West’s all-but-confirmed rebrand to Mau P considering the edit of his username across socials. There’s truly no track more fitting than “Drugs From Amsterdam” to ring in his newest chapter. Having already tallied up five releases thus far in the year, West’s newest stylistic progression pulls him deeper into the world of tech-house, a sound he’d already been dipping his production toes into throughout recent years under his original identity. And exactly as he did with bigroom throughout the 2010s, West is primed to conquer tech-house, with “Drums From Amsterdam” chaining one of the year’s most memorable pre-drop vocals beside an electric lead that understandably caused it to blow up on TikTok, leading to Malaa, John Summit, Dom Dolla, Tchami, and more playing it out live and Lee Foss wasting no time to sign it.
