The Nihil Young – Alone Again (Adam Stark Remix) is out now, so crank it up and hear for yourself and support the single here.

When you think back to your earliest projects, what’s something you would do differently now?

Thinking back to when I first started producing, I wish I had kept with it over the years instead of being so hot and cold with it. I started playing around with music production software in high school, and of all the things I wish I’d have done sooner in my career, sticking with the hard part earlier on is consistently the part I would go back and change.

Had I started taking music production more seriously when I was 16, or 22, or 25 I could be in a wildly different place now. It really does all come down to consistency, and being able to deliver on your timelines. without solid goals to achieve its had to measure your progress, and success.

What’s the hardest part of maintaining a music career that people don’t often talk about?

For me the biggest difficulty in maintaining a career is that for a long time its you supporting your vision. You have to be very disciplined and willing to wait out the downturns and the bad parts. You will always have support, but not everyone can come to every show, or download every release. Sometimes it has to be you who is the loudest champion for your music, and if you can’t do that when no one else is, then your journey through the music scene is going to be very difficult.

As an artist you have to have the confidence in yourself that you can figure out how to achieve your goals. It doesn’t mean that you have to have everything figured out, but for large swaths of the early stages of your career people are going to think you’re crazy for trying to pursue something so difficult. If you can; lean on yourself and your tenacity in these times, it will be difficult for you to find the footing for the way forward.

Why do you think it’s important for artists to share their struggles as much as their successes?

In the current post EDM landscape, DJs are still considered rockstars, and a lot of times the lifestyle is glorified in the media the public is able to consume. I believe it is important for artists to share as much of the mundane, boring, and ugly parts of their journey. Because ultimately you shouldn’t want to be famous, or to become rich doing this. You should want to build a life full of meaningful connections, friendshops, mentor ships and partner shitps that you can look back on and be proud of.

One of the greatest part of getting to participate in dance music culture are all the talented people that you get to interact with that will in turn push you to be a better version of yourself and a producer, person, and friend. The real joy in getting to participate in this industry on any level is in the friends that you make long the way.
