On October 5, 2014, Galantis shared “Runaway (U & I)“—the lead single from the Swedish dance-pop duo’s culture-shifting debut album, Pharmacy. The track would go on to help permanently blur the divides between electronic music and pop, cementing itself as one of the group’s most beloved hits. Now, to honor the GRAMMY-nominated dance recording’s eighth trip around the sun, trap-step trailblazer Subtronics joins the ranks of Dillon Francis, Kaskade, Quintino, KSHMR, Ookay, and others, turning in his official dub-heavy take on the timeless tune. Subtronics’ rework of “Runaway (U & I)” originated as performance-designated edit that swiftly grew into a crowd favorite ID. It’s no secret that Subtronics, born Jesse Kardon, has tastefully redefined dubstep’s main appeal in recent years; thus, it checks out that the sonic innovator would be next in line to offer his take on the Billboard record-breaking track for a distinguished eight-year anniversary remix. Prior to “Runaway (U & I),” Subtronics has reimagined both ACRAZE‘s “Do It To It” and Kx5‘s “Escape,” respectively, in 2022. Now it has been six months since the 29-year-old producer has released original music. Nonetheless, his consecutively released trio of remixes do more than suffice as anticipatory appetizers while fans await Subtronics’ next original offering.Stream “Runaway (U & I) [Subtronics Remix]” via Big Beat Records.
