AIR Music Tech Launches Fly Tape II Cassette FX Plugin With MPC and DAW Integration

AIR Music Tech has officially launched Fly Tape II, a cassette-inspired FX plugin created in collaboration with MSXII Sound Design. Originally introduced as a popular iOS app, it is now available for MPC standalone devices, MPC desktop, and all major DAWs. The plugin is designed for producers who want to add saturation, warble, lo-fi character, and analog-style tape effects directly into their sessions with real-time performance controls.

Fly Tape II includes eight tape-inspired FX modes: Speed, Saturation, Warble, Lo-Fi, Brake, Reverse, Mute, and Stutter. Each mode has multiple variations that allow for detailed manipulation of time, pitch, and tone. A noise fader, wet/dry mix, and retro user interface round out the design, offering producers a streamlined way to add cassette-style imperfections.

At launch, Fly Tape II is priced at $24.99, down from the regular $49.99. A bundle with the Tape Series collection is also available for $44.99.

Cassette-Inspired FX With Performance Workflow

The focus of Fly Tape II is giving producers a performance-ready effects suite that integrates seamlessly into existing MPC and DAW setups. The plugin brings the tactile feel of cassette manipulation into modern production environments. Each FX mode is accessible through dedicated buttons, with a “hold” function that can switch from momentary to toggle behavior. This makes it useful not only for sound design but also for live performance, transitions, and quick creative experiments.

Saturation offers three flavors ranging from harmonic boost to tube-style drive. Warble introduces wow and flutter through seven settings that simulate the irregularities of old tape machines. Brake recreates tape stop effects with four timing options, while Stutter chops audio into eight rhythmic divisions for glitch and chopped textures. Lo-Fi mode gives eight variations of degraded sound, from hiss and noise to bit-reduced audio.

Fly Tape II supports VST, VST3, and AU formats on desktop, and is compatible with MPC standalone devices running firmware v2.15.1, v3.5, or later.

Artist Reactions and Practical Use Cases

Several Grammy-winning and nominated producers have already adopted Fly Tape II into their workflows. Snipe Young highlighted its ability to stay in the creative flow while adding character. Chrissy Tignor praised the balance between simple saturation and extreme transformations. Terence Brandt noted how quickly it adds texture without extra EQ moves, while DJ Burn One described it as an easy way to turn flat sounds into something more interesting.

Fly Tape II fills a gap for producers looking for cassette-style FX in a plugin format that works both in the studio and on stage. It is especially valuable for MPC users, who can now apply these effects directly within their hardware ecosystem without relying on external tools. With its range of modes, the plugin covers subtle analog color through to experimental glitch textures, making it a flexible addition to modern production setups.
