A-Trak and Chromeo’s Dave 1 share debut single as The Brothers Macklovitch, ‘Give Love To Get Some’ [Stream]

Family bands—does it get any better? From The Beach Boys to Disclosure groups like Van Halen, Soulwax, Inner City, and more have brought their familial chemistry to the studio and stage with an energy that is impossible to replicate with other humans for generations now.

Now after decades of navigating the music industry with their own projects, turntable maestro, A-Trak, and his older brother, Dave 1 of Chromeo, join the ranks of legendary family bands with their new collaborative project The Brothers Macklovitch. Together they have just put out their first single, a soulful jam entitled “Give Love To Get Some.”

It makes sense that the brothers’ first official release together would be grounded in funk. Dave 1 (real name David Macklovitch) has been spreading his brand of funk with Chromeo since 2004. A-Trak (real name Alain Macklovitch) on the other hand, has built his reputation on being more aurally diverse. But based on his early years in the hip-hop circuit and his party-starting disco-house duo, Duck Sauce, it’s clear the funk supports all of his musical efforts regardless of apparent genre tropes.

Together, David and Alain tapped into that common ground between them to deliver a musical message that is as old as time. Do good. Get good back. With a backdrop alternating between wistful breakbeat interludes and provocative four-on-the-floor rhythms, Leven Kali’s vocals provide effortless emotion as sparse horns decorate the soundscape. “Give Love To Get Some” is the first single of two-track release from The Brothers Macklovitch coming soon. They will also make their livestream debut on the #BeApp, Saturday, May 30 at 8:00 p.m. EST.
