HOW IT WAS MADE: DAVE WALKER & FORDAL – “QUANTUM VERSE”

Forensic Records is back with a new one from Dave Walker and Fordal, and it’s the kind of release that lands straight in the hands of people who live for late-night progressive sets. The Quantum Verse EP dropped on October 31, 2025, and it already made noise before release thanks to John Digweed playing the title track on Transitions. That co-sign set the tone for this one pretty early.

Quantum Verse leans into rolling low-end movement, wide pads and melodies that build without ever losing the groove. Hyperlight pushes things into a darker lane with tighter percussion and a more direct rhythm. It feels like the two sides of a proper club night from the same artists, tied together by the same attention to space and detail in the mix.

Dave Walker and Fordal broke down the tools and synths they used to build the EP, straight from their session notes. No fluff, no rewriting. Below, each section highlights one piece of gear followed by their own words on how it shaped the track.


Dawesome Myth

Dawesome’s Myth is a great soft synth. It has a very organic tone to it, and you can really tweak it all day long.

We used it as an accompaniment layer over the bassline to get a subby “wow” like sound that, over time, whilst using the cut off and various other parameters to make it crispier, it raised itself into the breakdown in a raw, grungy, dirty pattern. It was also used for the lead in this track, as it has a lovely organic bell-like feel to it, and it doesn’t really sound like any generic lead sounds in this genre.

We would recommend this synth to other producers who want to sound a little different from the normal everyday stuff that is heard.

Moog Sub 37

For the bassline, we used the Moog Sub 37. In duo phonic mode, it was perfect for doing the groovy stab chord sounds. That was also layered with a more mono subby saw tooth underneath.

Elektron Digitone II

We also used Elektron’s Digitone II for creating nice sweeping effects and cool percussion-style sounds. This is another great synth that uses FM, so you can really dial in to whatever type of sound you want, whether it be a short transient style sound or a long sweeping sound.
