Eva Zakula Shares Debut Album Be Ye Lil Gods

Eva Zakula has released her debut album Be Ye Lil Gods, a body of work that she describes as her most honest and reflective project to date. Built around themes of vulnerability, spirituality, and empowerment, the album carries the energy of an artist who has unlearned the traditional expectations of music-making and leaned into raw expression instead.

Zakula’s path to this release has been shaped by a lifetime of performance and experimentation. Raised in the Bay Area, she began leading church hymns before forming her first garage band, Eva and The Handsome’s, at sixteen. Later, while studying at USC’s School of Dramatic Arts, she continued to refine her artistic voice. Long walks across Los Angeles became part of her creative process, offering inspiration that eventually fueled her studio work. Now fronting her all-girl rock band, The LA Flakes, she brings that same spirit to the stage across the city’s night scene.

Her influences stretch widely, from Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson to System of a Down, Wolfmother, Chaka Khan, Julie London, and Bette Midler. That eclectic taste shows in her music, including her reimagined take on Stevie Wonder’s “Jesus Children of America.”

A Reflective Creative Process

Speaking on the process behind Be Ye Lil Gods, Zakula explains that the turning point came when she stopped chasing trends and perfection. Instead, she focused on what makes music feel timeless — honesty, vulnerability, and emotional depth. She credits her spiritual practice as a catalyst for the writing process, saying that aligning with her “most sensitive and heightened self” allowed the songs to take shape naturally.

Each track reflects her vision of reconnecting with humanity through music. The album, she says, is intended as a space where listeners are reminded of both their strength and softness, and as an invitation to embrace emotion without hesitation. In her words, Be Ye Lil Gods is “a vocation, a mantra, the most honest version of me I’ve ever shared.”

With her debut now out on streaming platforms, Zakula positions herself as a breakthrough artist unafraid to explore bold ideas while keeping her focus rooted in human connection. Be Ye Lil Gods marks the start of what looks to be a promising path forward.
