Interview: UK Songwriter Michael Aldag on his stunning synth-driven production style & how social media fame impacts his music life..

Michael Aldag announces a new EP and UK Tour dates

Building a fanbase in 2025, is a needle in a haystack – throwing sh*t against the wall to see what sticks process.. We’re all trying to do it, with varying degrees of success, but one artist who absolutely cracked the formula for short-form, accessible content over lockdown – is UK songwriter Michael Aldag. His viral content, built a dedicated audience – but the larger aim was always his music, as he returns with a new single + tour dates – the aim is to take this following towards his impeccably produced, synth-driven alt-pop..

Check out our latest Magnetic Mix – by Deep Cuddle

Blending darkly shimmering production with unflinching honesty, “Saturday” captures the all-too-familiar cycle of relapse, regret, and reaching out when you swore you wouldn’t. It’s the penultimate taste of his upcoming EP, already sparking buzz thanks to a viral TikTok where Aldag poked fun at the perks of penning his own lyrics.

That mix of humor and candor has made him a rising voice in British pop, amassing over a million followers online while connecting with listeners who recognize themselves in his confessions. With “Saturday,” Aldag proves once again that his greatest strength lies in turning messy, late-night impulses into songs that are bold, vulnerable, and impossible to shake.

Hi Michael! Congratulations on the new single + tour dates..

Thank you!

What can we expect from the tour?

Me. Singing. Acoustically. Songs I’ve written. For about an hour. Mosh pits. The first acoustic tour to have consistent, seismic mosh pits inside 100 cap venues.

Tell us a bit about your change in sound.. this new project seems to have a bit of a love for synths?

Yes it is very synthy you are right. Robin Stjernberg, the genius behind the production and I bonded over our love of Alphaville and wanted to explore that world so the album is us doing that but also just doing whatever we wanted that day.

Any production secrets you can share with us?

You’ll have to ask Robin, I am a mere writer really apart from a couple of the tracks, like ‘fantasia’. I know he loves a Moog and I like my little OP1 synth because I can take it to Sweden in my backpack. Robin is a magician, it’s genuinely a sight to behold when he locks in on something because he just makes it sound 1 million dollars straight away. We could genuinely release all of the demos as the album and you wouldn’t bat an eye, of course Robin holds himself to a super high standard so he toils over the tracks after we have written them but they sound incredible from the jump – it really helps me write too as I dont have to imagine where the song will end up, I’m instantly in that world and it allows me to take more risks, I’m very lucky really.

Some of our readers will know you for your content rather than your music right now.. Do you find this can be difficult?

Not anymore, I used to struggle with it in my past because I had people around me giving me the wrong advice but I’ve embraced it since and found a way to make it work for both my music and my content. I’m just grateful for anyone who watches a video or listens to a song 🙂

Though i’d imagine it’s better to have a fanbase that knows you for one thing.. rather than no fanbase at all, does it ever become a struggle?

I’m very grateful for anyone who watches my videos or listens to my music. Again, I think they go hand in hand as people can see my personality in the content and I think that’s created a tighter community around my music as people can see the consistency through both, the videos which are just reflections of my life and my lyrics which are the same. I love touring because that’s when things move offline and you get to meet people who have been kind enough to comment on the videos and stream and message etc. So no, it’s not a struggle, I love it!

Are there any specific tools or tips you can recommend for converting viewers or casual engagements on social media, to ticket buying fans?

I’m not sure about a specific tool, I think just keep posting consistently. People are out there who want to see you play your music it’s your job to reach them, no matter how many posts it takes…

Where can readers catch you performing?
