It’s been nothing less than a whirlwind of a January for The Chainsmokers, and they’re only adding to it with a second surprise release. Drew Taggart and Alex Pall didn’t make their return to the public eye without a bit of confusion—recruiting to two unfamiliar faces to pose as them on their social media and at their XS Las Vegas show—and after reinserting themselves back into the project’s driver’s seat, the duo has now dropped off another cover as a token of appreciation to those that have been patiently holding on for their fourth album. While the explicit release date for “High“—the confirmed first single of The Chainsmokers’ new LP—is still in question, the duo is holding us over in the meantime once more, turning in a take on THE ANXIETY, Willow, and Tyler Cole’s chart-topping single, “Meet Me At Our Spot.” Quietly premiered during The Chainsmokers New Year’s Eve set at Decadence Colorado, the “Meet Me At Our Spot” cover is another heaping package of nostalgia, with the two explaining that they “wanted to take it back to our roots and remix this amazing indie record and turn it on its head and make something really fun.” And between The Chainsmokers trending towards future bass on this release and engaging in melodic house on their “I Can’t Make You Love Me” rendering—also doing so on their EDC Las Vegas ID, “Emotion”—their newest output affirms that they’re still going to leave everyone guessing as to the exact creative direction that they’ll take on their currently unnamed album. The Chainsmokers’ “Meet Me At Our Spot” rework can be streamed exclusively via their SoundCloud here.Featured image: World Red EyeTags: The Chainsmokers
