Grimes is quickly following up on her Chris Lake collaboration, “Drug From God” with yet another new single, “Player Of Games.” Quintessentially Grimes, the new track artfully maintains the her otherworldly aesthetic, finding the artist musing, “Would you still love me/Out on Europa,” as she sails away “to the cold expanse of space.”“If I loved him any less/I’d make him stay/But he has to be the best/Player of games/If I loved you any less/I’d make you stay,” Grimes promises in the chorus that finds her in the midst of a synth-pop rave. One informed listen to the track’s lyrics and the song’s content could easily be construed to reference her former partner, the billionaire founder of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, with whom she shares son. “Drug From God” and “Player Of Games” arrive as the first two singles from Grimes since she released her 2020 album, Miss Anthropocene.
