After closing the five-year gap that separated 2015’s Purpose and his next LP with Changes in February 2020, Justin Bieber has doubled down on his album-driven return to musical prominence with his sixth studio album, Justice. Whereas the four-time Grammy Award-nominated Changes pitted Bieber in a R&B-preferencing terrain, on Justice, the Biebs goes back to basics—pure, unadulterated pop. With his knack for head-turning pop lyrical hooks ever apparent on inclusions such as the BEAM-aided “Love You Different,” Bieber is well-positioned to win praise from even the most lukewarm critics of Changes. In true Bieber fashion, the LP is not without noteworthy tie-ups, with Daniel Caesar, Chance the Rapper, Khalid, Giveon, The Kid Laroi, and Benny Blanco all donning their talents on Justice. Producers in the electronic arena also find representation on JBiebs’ latest. Notably, Skrillex and Virtual Riot apply their touch to the dream pop LP’s opening number, “2 Much.” Skrillex’s signature also extends to two other Justice tracklistings, “Somebody” and “Loved By You,” the latter of which calls on Burna Boy. Ryan Tedder receives writing credits on “Somebody”; Jon Bellion is credited as a co-writer on “Loved By You.”In the spirit of Justice, Bieber has partnered with Propeller, a digital platform that works at the crossroads of culture and social good, to raise awareness for a variety of nonprofit organizations including Alexandria House, Anti-Recidivism Coalition, Baby2Baby, The Compton Pledge, Equal Justice Initiative, Lift Communities, Poor People’s Campaign, Self Help Graphics & Art, The King Center and This Is About Humanity.
