The rise of the Gyratory Allstars has truly been a fun one to watch.
Brighton’s 11-piece funk, soul, and acid-jazz collective have always felt like a band built for the long haul: the kind of group whose grooves take root and grow steadily, then suddenly feel like they’ve been around forever. Their self-titled debut EP, released in October 2024, was the moment that arc snapped into focus. Powered in no small part by the warm, unmistakably soulful vocals of Jerry Clavier (J-Felix, Laroye), the project picked up global praise and landed rotational support from BBC 6 Music’s Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show, Norman Jay on Soho Radio, Jazz FM, Solar Radio, Mi-Soul, JazzFunkSoul… the kind of list that makes you realize that this is the kind of act that you should be following.
Since then, the Allstars have spent 2025 in their natural habitat: onstage. Festival runs and packed UK gigs saw them sharing bills with everyone from Cut Capers to the Sugar Hill Gang, sharpening their already ferocious live chemistry. And now, as the year winds down, they hand the keys to a new cast of collaborators for a remix EP that reframes their sound for the dance floor – and it’s out today.
DJ WheelUP and Matica deliver soulful house and broken-beat versions built for warm, late-night rooms; the band’s own Jez Lloyd, under his Ink Project moniker, flips a peak-time breakbeat burner; and Gyratory Soundsystem, the internal remix alter-ego for the group’s producers, contributes deep disco and instrumental hip-hop reinterpretations. It’s a full on expansion of the original project: the Allstars’ signature horn-rich, rhythm-driven architecture filtered through new angles, new textures, and new club contexts.

With more new material already in the works and 2026 live dates on the horizon, the Gyratory Allstars seem to not know what “slowing down” means. Keep an eye out for them next year.
