As the calendar turns to spring, snow begins to melt, flowers begin to bloom, and the Northern Hemisphere turns from winter’s shades of gray to a world teeming with color. This is what most people associate with spring, but for dance/electronic music fans across the nation, spring also marks the official start of dayclub season. And those eager to throw on a pair of flip flops and dance in the sun know that they’d be hard-pressed to find a better place on earth than Las Vegas to get their day drink on to the tunes of the industry’s most in-demand DJs. With dayclubs like Encore Beach Club, Marquee Dayclub, and Wet Republic, the Las Vegas Strip has become synonymous not only with luxury nightclubs, but also with their daytime counterparts. TAO Group Hospitality’s introduction of TAO Beach, Sin City’s newest dayclub, adds impact to Vegas’ assortment of day venues, expanding the city’s sprawling list of poolside sites catering to live music fans. In May, the New York-based hospitality company announced its merger with Hakkasan Group. The entertainment giants’ union has resulted in the convergence of their holdings, totaling 61 entertainment, dining, and nightlife venues in 22 markets across five continents. Among them are famous nightlife sites like Omnia Nightclub, Hakkasan Nightclub, and Marquee Nightclub, each of which hold their own repute. The introduction of TAO Beach Dayclub further bolsters the groups’ preeminent entertainment venues. In January of 2022, Tao Group announced the return of the completely revamped 3,000-capacity TAO Beach Dayclub at The Venetian. TAO Beach is an Asian-inspired tropical oasis spanning 47,000 square feet with two full bars and 29 luxury cabanas, including a select few VIP cabanas with private plunge pools. Names like Chris Lake, Sofi Tukker, John Summit, Afrojack, Kaskade, Vintage Culture, and more are set to take the stage at TAO Beach during the 2022 spring/summer season, with Alesso, Fisher, and Dancing Astronaut Artist of the Year in 2021 ILLENIUM set to join them as resident headliners. TAO Beach’s artist roster is reason enough to attract attention, but once attendees get through the doors, it’s the caliber of the experience that will keep them coming back. And Dancing Astronaut can attest to it; we were live on location in TAO Beach’s VIP section for Alesso’s sold-out stint at the dayclub’s opening weekend for an early look at the production and experience that go into TAO Beach. The club sits a few stories above street level, making for an elevated experience—both literally and figuratively. This means that upon arrival, guests must make their way up to the club using either the elevator or the escalator. Once they do, they’ll be greeted by two separate 15-foot sculptures fashioned by acclaimed artist Daniel Popper. Popper is famous for his art installations, featured EDC Las Vegas, among other high-profile pieces of work; this history makes him a natural fit when it comes to bringing TAO Beach’s aesthetic to life. One of Popper’s exclusive creations for TAO Beach is Tendai, a sculpture of a goddess that “greets and blesses all guests.” According to TAO Beach, the deity “was created for those to give thanks and to feel a sense of gratitude for their lives.” The 8,000-pound sculpture overlooks TAO’s five-acre pool, which is accessible to all TAO Beach guests. With respect to the luxury cabana experience, it’s clear that visitors positioned at any one of the site’s 29 cabanas will meet with some of the friendliest waiters, waitresses, and security in the daylife/nightlife industry. TAO Beach staff happily greet the people in your party and attentively cater to your every need for the duration of the show. The drink menu features standard options like tropical cocktails, as well as bottle service options reflective of the highest possible level of excellence. And though the drink choices are worth notice, the food options are what really stand out. TAO Beach’s expansive food menu features everything from burgers and burritos to extravagant sushi and seafood towers. It’s worth noting that you don’t have to be in a luxury cabana to feel like a VIP at TAO Beach. A full list of drink and food options is also available to all patrons, who can order at either one of TAO Beach’s two bars. There are also plenty of places to lounge, take a dip in the pool, or ride the figurative rail. In short, although the VIP experience at TAO Beach is money well spent, those who would prefer not to splurge can have an equally good time at the venue, which is decidedly more intimate than its much larger counterpart on The Strip, Encore Beach Club. The caliber of live entertainers available in Las Vegas has always been one of the city’s biggest draws, and a crowd flocked to TAO Beach accordingly for Alesso’s roughly one-and-a-half-hour set. The pool-facing performance included his “Somebody To Use” intro, his “Pressure (Alesso Remix)” and “Graveyard (Axwell Remix)” mashup, as well as a brand new mashup of Swedish House Mafia‘s “Can U Feel It,” not to mention one of his own throwback’s, 2011’s “Nillionaire.” He would also debut a VIP mix of his latest single, “Words” with Zara Larsson, and play out unreleased tracks like one of our most-needed IDs of 2022, “Rave All Night.” After playing for roughly 90 minutes, it seemed that things would come to a close. But then, from our spot behind the decks, we could see the Swede turn to TAO Group co-founder and co-owner Jason Strauss to let him know that he wasn’t done yet. Alesso would go on to play for another hour before closing with his career-defining remix of “If I Lose Myself.” There was something particularly free and loose about the set that Alesso put on, and that’s reflective of the environment that TAO has clearly worked hard to cultivate at TAO Beach. Not only is the experience something of a top-notch quality for diehard dance music fans and people looking for the best in daytime entertainment alike, but it’s evidently also a venue at which world-class DJs like Alesso will look forward to performing. The two-and-half-hour set and the overall experience at TAO Beach is a testament to TAO Group’s two years of unrelenting work towards the venue’s grand debut—and what a debut its first month-plus has been. The new TAO Beach at The Venetian in Las Vegas is open weekly from Thursday to Sunday, and its updated calendar of events can be found here, along with ticket information.
