Aspen Vodka isn’t just another luxury spirit—it’s a real reflection of its surroundings and values. Straight out of Aspen, Colorado, it pulls everything it can from the environment: crystal-clear water from the Roaring Fork River, Colorado Red Winter Wheat, and the kind of high-altitude craftsmanship you’d expect from a place known for its pristine beauty. But what really makes Aspen Vodka stand out is how it blends exceptional quality with a real, measurable commitment to sustainability.
The distillery behind Aspen Vodka is one of the most forward-thinking facilities in the world. They’re carbon-negative, LEED Platinum-certified, and built to generate more clean energy than they consume—thanks to on-site solar, battery storage, and regenerative agriculture. Even their wastewater treatment system is next level, recycling stillage and water back into something usable. By drinking Aspen Vodka, you’re supporting a facility that actively gives back to its environment.
In this interview with Ross Hensley, Aspen Vodka’s Global Brand Ambassador & Sales Director, we get into how Aspen Vodka fits into the broader culture of sustainability at music festivals. From carpooling to upcycling, to what the future of eco-friendly pregaming could look like, there are plenty of actionable tips here for festival-goers who want to keep their footprint light. Aspen Vodka isn’t greenwashing—they’re setting the standard, and if you care about where your drink comes from, this is one you can feel good about raising a glass to.
1. How can festival-goers minimize their environmental footprint while traveling to a festival?
Carpool to the festival and don’t forget your water bottle.
2. What are some creative ways to upcycle or reuse items for pregaming at a festival?
Solar portable chargers.
3. Can you talk about Aspen Vodka’s sustainable production practices and how they contribute to an eco-friendly pregame experience?
We are giving clean energy back to the grid through our solar array. We have a revolutionary wastewater treatment center – recycling wastewater and stillage back to clean drinking water. We have saved half the acreage on our site for regenerative agriculture and food production. When people buy/consume Aspen Vodka, they are supporting a project that is actually giving back to the community and environment.
4. How do you think Aspen Vodka fits into the broader culture of sustainability at music festivals?
Aspen Vodka and the distillery are NOT greenwashing things, which happens all too often in this day and age. We are being held accountable by the United States Green Building Council, and the first distillery in the world to achieve the highest level in their Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program – LEED Platinum BD+C V4 Certification.
I believe consuming products that are coming from actual accredited sustainable production facilities will not only sustain music festivals but the world.
5. How do you envision the future of sustainable pregaming, and what role will Aspen Vodka play in that vision?
Sending the message.
6. Can you share tips for festival-goers to minimize their environmental footprint while traveling to a festival?
Walk. Just kidding – but become aware of your carbon travel footprint – there’s apps for it. Learn about SAF and airlines leading sustainable aviation. An easier and safer way that everyone can implement, for festivals and for life, is carpooling or using public transportation when possible.
