Rising Star Alwyn Morrison Delivers Stellar Debut EP “Heartsplit”

We won’t mince words: Alwyn Morrison‘s debut EP “Heartsplit” is special.

Released September 5, 2025, the six-track record wastes no time in showing off a young songwriter who knows how to balance intimacy with grandiose ambition. Morrison’s rise this year has already been fast-tracked by “Chained”, a breakout single that stormed U.S. radio. But “Heartsplit” proves that he’s not a one-hit wonder: he’s here to stay.

The opening half of the record leans confidently into rock territory. “A Mile a Minute” bursts out with jangling guitars and a buoyant chorus, pulling listeners into Morrison’s world with near-effortless charm. “The City” doubles as a love letter and battle cry for the artist’s home territory of New York, fusing urgency and introspection in equal measure. By the time “Chained” arrives, the EP has found its emotional centerpiece: a guitar-driven ballad that translates raw vulnerability into a melody meant to echo long after the track fades. No wonder this track was a hit.

The second half of the project shifts the palette without jumping the shark. “Lenox Hill” floats on a bed of synths and piano, a track that feels expansive and cinematic while keeping its heart close. “Turn All the Lights On” playfully tips its hat to pop icons like Britney Spears and Whitney Houston while grounding itself in electric guitar grit. And with “Maybe in Another World”, Morrison closes on a note of quiet grandeur, a ballad that swells from acoustic guitars to French horns, leaving the listener levitating in reflection. It’s hard for artists to take a listener on this kind of journey even well into their careers. For someone to do it on their debut EP is a sign of greatness.

What makes “Heartsplit” truly special is its refusal to rush. Each song feels calculated down to the minute detail, every chorus earned. This is a sign of maturity seldom found in young artists like Morrison, further cementing his status as one to watch. Supported by heavyweight collaborators yet unmistakably personal in its lyricism, Morrison’s debut sketches out an artist fully in command of his first statement – and one clearly poised for a career for the record books.

“Heartsplit” is out now. For fans of vinyl, expect a pressing soon.
