For his next re-imaginative trick, New York’s characteristically elusive longstoryshort courts Doctor P‘s October 2020 single, “Won’t Let Go,” taking the Circus Records release on a driving drum ‘n’ bass jaunt. Through the conversion, longstoryshort further defines his “cinematic bass” classifier. In an August discussion with Dancing Astronaut, the Warehouse Weapons EP maker cited cinematic bass as a “take on bass-house or bass music…inspired by a lot of the sounds you’ll hear in soundtracks/film music.” It’s no misnomer in the context of longstoryshort’s “Won’t Let Go” revision, which races the BPM of Doctor P’s melodic original, adding a drilling, thrilling character to a remix that’s bursting at the seams with energy, a new sense of zeal audible. Well-suited for a live setting, the “Won’t Let Go” alteration underscores the scorching nature of longstoryshort’s touch, which extends to the drum ‘n’ bass realm with dexterity.
