Respinning mid-2000’s smashes into electronic gold is a relatively new facet of Gianni Blu‘s creative toolkit that’s led to deft dance recastings of Chris Brown‘s “Forever” and now, Usher and will.i.am’s “OMG.” Doused in Blu’s signature deep, dark tonal rinse, the Italian-Haitian producer’s revisitation of a fan favorite now 11 years in the rearview harnesses electro house in a characteristically ear-catching fashion. Hot to the touch, “OMG” derives part of its pizzaz from the drum pattern that Blu preserves. The rest of the remake’s firepower can be credited to D. Lylez‘s vocal stand-in for Usher. The Voice contestant’s topline almost uncannily resembles Usher’s 2010 vocal, adding a touch of the familiar to a new, house-guided take that, like its predecessor, can be expected to power summer playlist requests. “OMG” is out now via Smash The House’s Smash Deep.Featured image: Gianni Blu/InstagramTags: electro house, Gianni Blu, house, Smash Deep, Usher, will.i.am
