Hexlogic is back in business with Set Me Free, a new EP on Biome Recordings that marks a shift in how he approaches music. After stepping away for a few years, he came back with a different mindset—one driven by curiosity instead of the expectations far too many producers are putting on themselves these days.
But there’s more to this release than just a creative shift. Hexlogic’s audience has only grown, pulling in 17 million streams across platforms, with Wonder and Reflections leading the way and driving a lot of the growth that his career has seen of late. He’s landed placements on Spotify’s Night Rider and Apple Music’s Deep House Haven, and his music has even been licensed for Netflix and Apple Fitness+. Clearly, whatever he’s doing is connecting.
We were lucky enough to land the first interview with him after making his triumphant return to music, and in this chat, he unpacks what it’s been like making music in Ukraine over the last few years, how stepping away helped reset his approach, and why he’s never been interested in chasing trends. The result? A record that moves between deep house, progressive, and melodic techno without forcing itself into any one lane.
His influences right now? Kasablanca, Rezident, Bonobo, Lola Young. No album plans at the moment, but he’s focused on keeping things fun—because once that disappears, getting it back is harder than most people think.
Welcome to the Biome Recordings family, Eugene! To be honest, you’ve already worked with Avoure with a successful collaboration “Wonder”. But since then, your sound has noticeably evolved. Considering the war in Ukraine, it must be challenging to create music under such circumstances, yet you continue to do it brilliantly, just like before.
Hey-hey-hey! I took a break for a couple of years to think about what I want to do in my music journey. It helped me a lot. You know, the war became a new norm that I try to avoid as much as it possibly can.
Of course, I cannot do that in full since some of my family is in the army now, but it is what it is. I think the most important inspiration sources for me are music, programming, and the gym now.
It’s clear that your “Set Me Free EP” is the most melodic release on Biome so far. Do you plan to stick to this sound in the future, or was it just an experiment?
It is an experiment that went beyond my control. Everything starts from a question “what if?”. Basically, all of my music was written that way. 
I think I’ll just keep experimenting with sounds and genres and see where it leads me.
You’ve already collaborated with incredible artists and top labels, but could you name a few artists who inspire you the most right now?
LE YORA, Lola Young, Kasablanca, Chrome Sparks, Machinedrum, Rezident, Bonobo, edapollo, Maribou State… this list is countless, and I would collaborate with them all if I could.
Can we expect an album from Hexlogic in the next few years?
Who knows
Not ready to answer it yet. I’m still recovering from that pause, so it’s hard to say.
Is there something you’d recommend to your beginner self or to those just starting out?
One and only rule: Have fun.
It’s easy to lose and hard to recover. I’ve been there, trust me.
