The Dalai Lama has marked his milestone 85th birthday with the release of his debut album, Inner World. Shared on Monday, July 6, the Tibetan spiritual leader’s first-ever musical endeavor offers mantras and Buddhist teachings set to music throughout the LP’s 11 tracks. Encompassing the 14th Dalai Lama’s decades of dedication to world peace, Inner World aims to create a sense of safety and inspire hope, the Dalai Lama explained, stating,
“The very purpose of my life is to serve as much as I can…Music can help people in a way that I can’t.”
The special project began in 2015 when longtime student of the Dalai Lama, Junelle Kunin, requested his participation in the album. Along with her husband Abraham, Kunin and other collaborators worked to bring the vision to life. Inner World is out now HitCo Entertainment and Khandro Music.
