Clusters of club-goers gain two new candidates for heavy rotation, thanks to Chomper‘s Check It EP. The energetic doublet of house hitters is Pharaoh Phonix‘s second all-time release, following “Funky Skunk,” with which founder Thomas Xavier broke label ground in mid-February. Sonically, Chomper’s Check It EP is a congruous a fit for Pharaoh Phonix; it’s upbeat and situated in a groove land off house’s all too beaten path, with memorable, sample-conferring quirks. These hallmarks have helped Xavier to distinguish his sound in house’s saturated pool, and from the Check It EP, it’s clear that Chomper is a like-minded collaborator who’s also looking at house through an out-of-the-box lens. A fit for Club Space or any other house haven, the eponymous opener kickstarts the EP’s buzz while “Peekaboo” ups that ante, with both Xavier and Chomper rubbing shoulders on a wonky, whistle-sampling tune fit for body work.
