It’s always fascinating to hear fusions of musical genres that one might never anticipate. Today, we’d like to highlight a truly masterful one. The guzheng, a traditional Chinese instrument, dates all the way back to the B.C.E days. But, on her newest single, Bei Bei brings the storied string into the modern age with grace and precision.
The Los Angeles–based guzheng virtuoso and composer has released “Two Moons“, the first single and title track from her forthcoming album. Co-created with London-based producer Paul Simon Elliott, it’s a luminous, cinematic statement: a moment where centuries of tradition orbit the glow of modern electronic production.
Written during the 2024 Mid-Autumn Festival (a night of reflection and reunion beneath twin celestial bodies – the moons referenced in the song’s title) “Two Moons” embodies Bei Bei’s signature fusion of Eastern and Western sounds. The guzheng’s rippling tones drift through Elliott’s lush electronic textures, balancing meditative grace with pulsing modernity. It’s a song that effortlessly takes an ancient instrument and fuses it with modernity.
The single sets the tone for “Two Moons” (due out February 20, 2026, on digital and vinyl), a seven-track suite exploring identity, roots, and the cosmic tension between nostalgia and innovation. The project has already earned a Silver Medal at the Global Music Awards for both “World Fusion” and “Album”, affirming Bei Bei’s position as one of the most forward-thinking artists redefining Chinese instruments in a global, modern context.
Across her career, from the cross-cultural funk of “Into the Wind” with Shawn Lee to her orchestral collaborations with the Pacific Symphony, Bei Bei has proven herself a boundary-dissolving visionary. With “Two Moons,” she and Elliott stretch the guzheng into a new dimension. It’s a triumphant statement, and we cannot wait to hear what the entire album has in store.
