Mental Frank’s “Genesis of Instinct” feels like the kind of track that understands how to pull you in without overselling a single second of it. It does not come in trying to prove itself with a huge first drop or some oversized melodic cue meant to tell you how to feel. It settles into the room slowly, lets the tension build through placement and texture, and trusts that the listener is paying attention. That confidence goes a long way.
As the third release from his monthly Corrupted Beauty rollout, the track also carries a little more weight than a random single tossed into the algorithm. There is a larger arc behind it, and you can hear that in the way the arrangement unfolds. This feels like a piece inside a bigger body of work, but it still holds its own because the mood is so controlled and the pacing is handled so well.
A slow build that earns its tension
The opening is what grabbed me first.
That higher bass placement creates a strange, suspended feeling, as if the track is circling its center without fully landing on it yet. Then when the octave drops and the kick comes in, the moment does not arrive with fireworks. It lands with confidence. That is a much better choice for a record like this because it keeps the whole thing grounded.
There is also a nice friction happening later on when that slightly acidic, slightly sharper texture cuts into the warmer low end. It gives the track a little edge without breaking the hypnosis. I like that a lot. Too many deep records smooth everything out so much that nothing actually leaves an impression. This one keeps a little abrasion in the frame, and that is part of why it works.
Mental Frank knows how to let a track breathe
What makes “Genesis of Instinct” feel stronger than a lot of melodic deep house is that it leaves room for the details to do their job. The pads, the sub movement, the spacing between elements, all of it feels thought through. Even the tuning choices and embedded frequency work feel less like gimmicks and more like part of a larger compositional philosophy.
That lines up with how Mental Frank approaches DJing too. You can hear that this is made by someone who cares about continuity, narrative flow, and how a record sits in time rather than chasing constant payoff. “Genesis of Instinct” is patient, moody, and locked into its own lane, and that makes it feel more lasting than something built for a quicker hit.
