After months of rumors and a handful of dazzlingly off-center singles, VIER are finally HIER.
The newly formed supergroup, consisting of widely acclaimed producers Thys (formerly of Noisia), Machinedrum, HOLLY, and Salvador Breed, step into focus with their debut album “IIII“, released earlier this month via VISION Recordings. What began as a playful experiment between four friends has evolved into a project that’s far beyond the sum of its parts: a collective act of trust made audible.
Across eleven tracks, “IIII” dissolves the boundaries between breakbeat, trap-meets-gabber, halftime, jungle and cinematic electronica: music that darts from bruising, grimy voltage to kaleidoscopic, cathartic euphoria. It’s less a genre exercise than a shared philosophy. The group’s workflow, passing sketches between members in ten-minute bursts, became a ritual of surrender and response, entrusting the next artist in line to improve upon it using their unique vision. Every sound passes through four sets of hands, and every decision becomes a conversation. What could have collapsed into chaos instead found its rhythm very quickly. “It’s about letting go of control,” says Thys. “You can hear trust in it,” adds HOLLY.
Each artist brings their own gravity. Thys channels his dark, sci-fi precision into kinetic club momentum; Machinedrum threads structure and story; HOLLY injects fearless spontaneity; and Salvador Breed refines the details, deepening the album’s texture. Together they form a fifth presence, a shared pulse they call Dream Rave. As mentioned earlier, they all join forces harmoniously on each and every track, creating something far beyond a fragmented sum-of-its-parts.
Following the singles “Frankfurt”, “Control”, “Where Were You”, “Solitu”, and “Vai Pulando”, “IIII” stands as a full statement of intent: playful, meticulous, and alive. VIER celebrated the release with launch shows at Simplon (Groningen, Oct 10) and Gretchen (Berlin, Oct 11), before joining VISION’s ADE showcase (Oct 22).
The story doesn’t end here, as sessions continue and ideas continue to evolve. “IIII” is the sound of four distinctly masterful minds becoming one, and discovering what happens when no one tries to steer. It’s unity in the most musical sense. We cannot wait to see what they do next.
