Nico Cann Marries the Past and the Present on “Lose My Mind”

London’s a hotbed for rising talents. Here’s one you should keep your eye on.

Rising London-based artist Nico Cann continues to carve out his place as one of the most promising young songwriters in the UK pop-rock landscape with his latest release “Lose My Mind“. Released on August 29, 2025, and produced by longtime collaborator Thomas Mitchener, the single threads together the emotional immediacy of youth with the bittersweet clarity of adulthood. Drawing loose inspiration from the novel The Catcher in the Rye, it’s a reflection on the longing for a past that feels half-remembered and half-invented – “the time that never was.”

The track opens with a crystalline riff played through a Roland Jazz Chorus 120, a nod to Cann’s love for the lush, chorus-soaked textures of the 1980s. But while the sonic palette feels nostalgic, Cann’s delivery is grounded in the present, with his voice sitting front and center, warm and unguarded – before the song erupts into a soaring, melodic guitar solo courtesy of his close friend Nicholas Richards. The moment is about as cinematic as it gets.

Born in Milan and now based in London, the 21-year-old artist brings a rare balance of instinct and precision to his craft. A classically trained pianist and student at ICMP, Cann channels the earnest storytelling of classic rock legends filtered through modern songwriting and production. His songwriting has already earned recognition from Rolling Stone UK and a sold-out hometown show in Milan with his band, The Air Traffic.

Ultimately, “Lose My Mind” captures what Cann does best: transforming nostalgia into something vibrant and alive. It’s a song about remembering what it felt like to feel everything, and refusing to let that feeling fade. This is an artist you should really keep tabs on, because he’s got no signs of stopping.
