Tangent Spectrum II Launches Updated Series with Enhanced Audio Fidelity

Tangent has introduced Tangent Spectrum II, a fully refreshed speaker range that blends minimalist Scandinavian aesthetics with enhanced audio components. This update renews the Spectrum series with improved precision, refined dynamics, and a unified sound identity. Spectrum II is designed to meet stereo playback, home cinema, and immersive setups alike.

A Unified Sound Identity

All models in the Spectrum II lineup share a consistent acoustic architecture. That ensures a coherent tonal balance whether you deploy a pair of bookshelf speakers or a full surround or Dolby Atmos system. The brand emphasizes that every model—from front speakers to center, subwoofer, and Atmos units—echoes the same voice and clarity.

To support that consistency, Tangent upgraded the internal components. The tweeter stages now use polypropylene (MKP) capacitors tailored for high-frequency purity. Metal oxide film resistors are applied for accurate signal control. Larger inductors refine the bass response for better control and tighter extension. These components serve to unify the series while raising the fidelity across the spectrum.

Models for Every Configuration

Spectrum II offers a broad selection of formats to suit different needs:

  • X5 and X4: two-way bass-reflex bookshelf speakers. The X5 pairs a 130 mm mid-bass and 25 mm dome tweeter. The X4 is slightly smaller with a 110 mm mid-bass.
  • X6: a floorstanding 2.5-way model, with dual 130 mm mid-bass drivers and extended low-frequency reach.
  • XLCR: an on-wall LCR speaker that complements Dolby Atmos or surround arrays discreetly while preserving the Spectrum II tonal signature.
  • XC: the center channel model built for focused dialogue clarity in home cinema systems.
  • XATM: a 2-way coaxial Atmos speaker with tweeter and mid-bass drivers tuned for upward dispersion.
  • XSW8: an active subwoofer with a 200 mm cellulose driver and a variable crossover that supports seamless integration into the full system.

These models cover setups from compact stereo to full 7.1.4 configurations, all designed to be sonically consistent.

Design & Finish

Spectrum II is available in satin black or satin white finishes. The updated enclosures reflect Tangent’s design ethos: clean lines, minimal coverings, and visual harmony in home environments. The aesthetic aims to let the speakers integrate into architectural spaces as easily as audio setups.

The XLCR wall speaker is a significant new addition, allowing users to maintain the Spectrum II sound identity even in Surround and LCR layouts without relying on third-party models.

Technical Excellence in Use

For users, the enhancements manifest in better clarity, tighter bass control, and greater coherence across channels. The shared acoustic design means that tonal matching becomes easier. Whether listening in stereo or in a multi-channel setup, the tonal character remains consistent.

The upgraded parts internally reduce coloration and distortion. Using precision components for the crossover and driver stages helps the speakers translate better with a wide range of amplifiers and source material.

Tangent hasn’t released public pricing for the full line yet but has shared some figures:

  • X5: ~£279 (per pair)
