Bromsen and Reatsch Drive Full Speed into the Digital Age with “Data Highway”

Berlin’s Bromsen aren’t interested in nostalgia for its own sake.

With their new single “Data Highway”, a collaboration with German producer Robert “Reatsch” Eydner, the duo of Richard and Karlo Bromsen stretch their roots in indie rock and synthwave into something truly unique: a neon-lit, 80’s-inspired production sharpened by the anxieties of our sometimes-too-connected present.

The track’s opening feels like a high-tech engine revving up: Richard’s layered synthesizers carving out a dazzling atmosphere before Karlo’s vocals cut through with immediacy. “Hangin’ around caught in a wire / How can we drown in the Wi-Fi?” he asks, delivering witty lines that feel both tongue-in-cheek and also quietly brutal. It’s a song about motion and about the constant stream we’re all stuck in, reinforced by a chorus that spins forward in an endless spiral: “We’re driving on a data highway.”

Reatsch’s impact on the production is unmistakable. As the founder of Suburb Studio Berlin, he’s polished more than a thousand songs across genres, but here he crafts a dynamic mix that feels alive, balancing weighty electronic beats with guitar grit and wide, breathing space. The result is a track that drives forward, feeling both cybernetic and grounded at once. That’s not an easy thing to accomplish, and yet, he makes it sound effortless.

For Bromsen, “Data Highway” continues a triumphant return that began with their 2024 debut “Brothers in Mind”, a record that reintroduced the world to a pair of Berlin musicians who once nearly broke through before stepping away. With drummer Bon Schmelke now part of the fold, their sound is bigger and their scope broader. The accompanying video translates the song’s themes into striking visuals, creating a retrowave dreamworld for both the eyes and the ears.

“Data Highway” is out now via RecordJet. If you’ve been feeling trapped in today’s digital rat race, this track will certainly take you out of it and into a neon world for a little while. Definitely add this one to your playlists.
