UK jazz-house duo BOLDEN. return with their third single, Where are our voices., out now via Artist House. Built around a lost voice note, a question between collaborators, and an accidental vocal take, the song pulls from the kind of real-world spontaneity that’s quickly becoming a hallmark of the project. It’s the latest preview of their debut album Would appear to be jazz., due August 29.
What started as a recording mistake ended up shaping the creative direction of the track. The phrase “Where are our voices?”—originally asked over a WhatsApp voice chat—ended up becoming the title, the theme, and a literal part of the song. That sense of real-time reflection runs through the entire production. The arrangement is laid-back but carefully arranged, full of layered textures, soft jazz harmony, and syncopated rhythm that gently loops without ever stalling. It’s one of those tracks that feels casual on the surface, but the musical detail underneath reveals a lot of intention.
A Track Born From an Accident, Framed as a Statement
Like most of BOLDEN.’s work, Where are our voices. walks the line between house structure and jazz expression. Reuben’s intuitive rhythm work and Catherine’s melodic ear create a sound that’s both approachable and musically fluent. The title itself hints at a larger theme—who’s being heard, who isn’t, and how easy it is to feel drowned out. That subtle social undercurrent doesn’t shout, but it anchors the track with purpose.
The duo’s upcoming album continues to lean into those questions. The title Would appear to be jazz. comes from Catherine’s university dissertation on gender in music. Across the record, they explore what jazz can be, who it includes, and how it adapts across time. With moments that blend electronic rhythm, live instrumentation, and jazz structure, the album feels designed to stretch definitions without rejecting tradition.
Tour Dates, Album Pre-Save, and a Fast-Rising Live Show
With the album dropping August 29, BOLDEN. are heading out on tour this fall. The Would appear to be jazz. tour kicks off September 21 in Berlin and runs through November 22 with a second Los Angeles show added due to demand. The tour includes stops in Stockholm, Paris, Amsterdam, Toronto, London, Brooklyn, and more.
BOLDEN. has built their momentum fast.
