RÜFÜS DU SOL Lights Up Miami With Euphoric, Full-Circle Hometown Performance

RÜFÜS DU SOL’s Inhale / Exhale World Tour is shaping up to be their most ambitious journey to date. With over 600,000 tickets sold during the initial onsale, the tour spans continents with sold-out stops at stadiums and amphitheaters from North America to Europe, including their biggest headline show ever at the Rose Bowl. The tour supports their fifth studio album, Inhale / Exhale, a project rooted in introspection, emotional depth, and a newfound clarity reflected in both their music and breathwork practices.

This GRAMMY-winning electronic trio, comprised of vocalist and guitarist Tyrone Lindqvist, keyboardist Jon George, and drummer James Hunt, is known for crafting immersive live shows that blend emotive vocals, pulsing synths, and cinematic production. Since forming in Sydney, Australia, they have built a global reputation for bridging the gap between dance music and live instrumentation, redefining what it means to perform in the electronic space.

I had the honor of attending their show in Miami last weekend, and by the time we made it through the growing crowd at Bayfront Park just before 7 PM, it already felt like a festival was underway. The sun was beginning to dip behind the skyline, casting a golden glow over the sea of fans — nearly 25,000 deep — all eagerly awaiting the return of RÜFÜS DU SOL. The show, a crown jewel of Miami’s F1 weekend, was the Australian trio’s sold-out hometown stop on their tour, and the electricity in the air was undeniable.

Opening duties belonged to NEIL FRANCES, whose chilled-out, disco-fused set served as the perfect sonic appetizer. Their laid-back groove, highlighted by tracks like “Teardrops” and a dreamy take on “Music Sounds Better With You,” brought the crowd into sync. I first fell in love with the duo when I stumbled into their forest set at Hulaween 2022, and their Bayfront performance reaffirmed why their music connects with me so deeply.

As dusk turned to night, anticipation peaked. Not only did RÜFÜS DU SOL finish the album in a studio steps from the venue, but the city has been their home for the past three years, marking this performance as a homecoming of epic proportions. Riding high off sold-out shows and the release of Inhale / Exhale Remixed just one day prior, the moment felt monumental.

The set opened with an otherworldly edit of “Inhale,” and the crowd roared to life. Every visual, from the towering LED structures to the synchronized red floodlights during “On My Knees,” matched the precision of the performance. “In the Moment” invited swaying bodies into shared emotion, while longtime favorite “Innerbloom” washed the park in rhythmic catharsis.

One personal high point? “Music is Better.” Transparently, it is in the bottom tier for me when matched up against the other 14 songs on Inhale / Exhale, which isn’t saying much given that the entire project is a masterpiece. However, something felt different about hearing it live. There was a heightened sense of emotion and community that fueled Lindqvist’s vocals and the powerful instrumental-backing from Hunt and George.

One die-hard fan and Miami-native, Ben, summed it up best:

“One of the standout moments for me was when RÜFÜS [DU SOL] played ‘Edge of the Earth.’ It has never been one of my top tracks from them, but hearing it live completely changed the way I feel about it — that moment gave me an entirely new appreciation for the tune. If I had to sum up the show in one word, it would be ‘euphoric.’ The energy was incredible, the lighting was next-level, and overall it was just insanely fun. I was really happy they opened with ‘Inhale’; it was an unbelievable way to kick things off. I still think that track has so much untapped potential, and I would love to see them expand on it live. Personally, I envision an ‘Inhale’ extended version as shaping up to be the next ‘Innerbloom’.”

As if the weekend had not already peaked, Hunt and George continued the magic with a Monday morning set at Club Space, where they dropped deep-cut edits of classics like “Until the Sun Needs to Rise,” weaving in new material from the remix album.

Stemming from this full-circle Miami weekend, RÜFÜS DU SOL are not just breaking the mold of electronic-live hybrid experiences — they are solidifying their place in the history books of music.
