Seven Lions, Lights reconvene on highly anticipated ‘Beyond the Veil’ single, ‘Stop Thinking’

Seven years after releasing “Falling Away,” Seven Lions and Lights have finally reunited. Originally debuted during Seven Lions’ Higher Love show at Red Rocks in June 2021, their follow-up collaboration—now officially known as “Stop Thinking”—would eventually become a part of Dancing Astronaut‘s most-anticipated IDs of 2022 list while also becoming staple piece of his live sets throughout the months leading up to its delivery. And now, it trails both “Every Time” featuring So Below and “Call On Me” with Vancouver Sleep Clinic to serve as the bookend to a string of debut album singles leading up to Beyond the Veil‘s arrival on October 21. “Stop Thinking” is everything listeners could want out of a sequel to its sonic predecessor, growing the insurmountable pile of proof surrounding Seven Lions’ ability to consistently offer evergreen tracks that stand the test of time. “Falling Away” as well as its accompanying “Festival Mix“—which he used to open his Electric Zoo set—have yet to fall out of his tracklists all these years later, and it’s reasonable to assume the same of “Stop Thinking.” It’s a quintessential mix of the bass and melodic elements that Seven Lions has become revered for, with Lights rising to the occasion just as she did in 2015 to provide a flawless topline that matches the euphoric sensations driven by the “Language”-like lead. While the “Stop Thinking” chorus implores the idea of “stop thinking you can make it better,” it’s been the opposite in a sense with Seven Lions’ creative approach to his own music. While the three-week countdown now ensues, it deserves to be restated that all three singles are decidedly varied in style and truly show off the Ophelia Records boss’ unique production talent. “Every Time” serves as a head-banging heavy hitter, “Call On Me” is a delightful blend of his melodic dubstep sound and the indie-electronic tastings of Vancouver Sleep Clinic, and “Stop Thinking” now completes the trifecta with a perfect, modern-day reincarnation of the style that Seven Lions built himself on. Behind the towering strength of its three previews, Beyond The Veil is shaping up to be a career-defining body of work and the man behind it is out to prove that like wine, he’s only getting better with age.
