In the time since Pharaoh Phonix‘s February foundation, Thomas Xavier has steadily amped up his label’s activity with a slew of his own original productions, as well as signings from invited tastemakers like Flynninho (“Sicario Mode“) and Chomper (Check It EP). In the midst of jumpstarting what has proven to be an imprint of promise, Xavier has also curated Pharaoh’s Chamber, a recurring event series hosted at The Miramar Theater in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Pharaoh Phonix’s recent music and event dealings considered, it’s only natural that Xavier’s sonic home base is now adding its first compilation album to its sprawling list of accomplishments. Keeping with the label’s Ancient Egyptian imagery, Pharoah’s Gold Vol. 1 collates submissions from Xavier, who assumes album-opening duties on track one, “I’m A Boss”; black a.m., who appears alongside Xavier on “Say You Got Me”; Chomper; St.Sinny; and ELEVATD, who closes out the project in gilded fashion with Xavier on “P&B.” For those who’ve identified with Thomas Xavier and the Pharaoh Phonix sound, Pharoah’s Gold Vol. 1 will serve as a welcome extension of the outside-the-box technics that have defined the label. For those new to it, the compilation album is a crash course in the idiosyncratic style that’s steadily appeared to ears in the house scene. Whichever of those two listening groups you belong, Pharoah’s Gold Vol. 1 can be streamed in full below. Tags: bass house, black am, Chomper, ELEVATD, house, Pharaoh Phonix, St.Sinny, Thomas Xavier
