Just in time for Women’s History Month, Confidence Man have released a piano-house heater by the name of “Woman.” The Melbourne foursome—Janet Planet, Sugar Bones, Clarence McGuffie, and Reggie Goodchild— produce club-ready tracks fit for the heyday of the ’90s; an era of vogueing along to Grace Jones, dressing up in sexy Madonna-esque fits to hit the club, and singing along in the whip to groovy music by Deee-lite. In this new single, illustrious NYC ballroom meets underground warehouse. The song is the third of 12 tracks to come on Confidence Man’s forthcoming sophomore album,Tilt. Due April 1 via Heavenly Recordings, the LP is runway music with a contemporary big-beat production, reminiscent of early Chemical Brothers.
The music video for “Woman” is out now and available to view in full below. In it, frontwoman Janet Planet recites a candid narrative as she slinks around, posing around other women dancing and imbibing at various locations in a dimly lit house. The song is a celebration and its narrative centers around themes of empowerment, self-sufficiency, and resilience. “I’m a woman of many words, but words, do not define me… Don’t call me the spark, I’m the fire and the flame, okay?” Planet sings.
