Premiere: DESTRUCTO laces funkadelic new mini-mix with Chromeo, Troy Boi, Afrika Bambaataa, and more

Typically DESTRUCTO invokes a distinct brand of swaggering G-house and funk that brings hip-hop to the club floor in a way completely, uniquely his own. Certainly there’s the occasional outlier, like his recent genre-crossing revamp of Dolly Parton’s iconic “Jolene,” though you’d be hard-pressed to find a departure in style within Gary Richards’ catalog that smacks harder than his latest delivery alongside Chromeo and Tima Dee, “F With Me.” Heavily synthesized piano lines meet effortlessly cool vocoded lyrical flow, bringing about the best of Dave1 and P-Thugg, balanced perfectly with an electro-funk framework that has Richards’ veteran touch written all over it. To celebrate the new single, Richards has laced together a new funk-laden mix, opening with the Chromeo collaboration, still hot off the press, to set the pace for the 30-minute session. Rodger & Zapp, Afrika Bambaataa, Troy Boi, and more make appearances throughout the mix, showcasing Richards’ deep crates, genre-blurring Midas touch, and production versatility all at once. And while Chromeo and DESTRUCTO may at first seem like an odd pairing, both acts have been championing one another since Richards’ days running HARD, and one listen to “F With Me” reflects that longterm kinship and chemistry from the jump. Listen to DESTRUCTO’s new “Funk 30 Mixxx,” and see a run of his spring tour dates below.
