Mura Masa enlists Lil Uzi, PinkPantheress, and ShyGirl for ‘bbycakes’

Kickstarting his 2022 release schedule comes Mura Masa‘s delicate, hyper-pop-infused new album single. “bbycakes” lands on the heels of “2gether“; the November single has garnered north of 3.5 million Spotify streams since its release. According to a press release, “‘bbycakes further introduces the dazzling world of Mura Masa’s third studio album,” which will mark the producer’s first long-form project since 2020’s R.Y.C. Featuring PinkPantheress, ShyGirl, and none other than Lil Uzi Vert, the fresh collaboration effortlessly showcases Mura Masa’s creative versatility. Since making his mark as a minimal future-bass guru on 2015’s Someday Somewhere, Mura Masa has gone on to exude a wide range of production styles that are still harmoniously in line with his brand. He’s no stranger to collaborating with trending hip-hop artists, having dispatched uber-successful tracks with Desiigner, Slowthai, and A$AP Rocky. In return, “bbycakes” collaborator Lil Uzi Vert is no stranger to featuring on electro-pop records; he partnered with Felix Snow in 2016 for a bouncy one-off track called “Love,” for example. Mura Masa continues to push the envelope on his latest offering; the steel drum sage truly knows no bounds when it comes to sound design.
