Chris Lake shares first label compilation, ‘Black Book ID’s: Chapter 1’

Chris Lake‘s record label has shared its first compilation, Black Book ID’s: Chapter 1. Lake says the goal of the EP is, “to give fans a sense of discovery, with exclusive, previously unreleased recordings from artists they love and songs from new artists that we’re excited about.”Black Book‘s Chapter 1 opens with a new single from the label head himself, the only fitting way to start the series. Chris Lake’s offering, produced in tandem with Riva Starr featuring lau.ra, is a grimy tech house belter starring a crawling bass line reminiscent of “Free Your Body” or “Deceiver.” Up next, Dubusque goes “Trippin’” with a potent acidic synth over an infectiously bouncy rhythm, followed by Fourword’s club-approved screamer “Snake Charmer.” The compilation closes with NightFunk’s ominously groovy remix of Nicky Night Time‘s Black Book single “Like I Don’t Exist.” The new compilation continues to show that Chris Lake is back in full force this yer. At the end of 2020 Black Book Records released The Answer, Armand Van Helden and Chris Lake’s collaborative four-tracker that modernized house’s root influences. Just this month, Lake got back with Chris Lorenzo to drop their first Anti Up single since 2019, announcing the duo’s debut album is imminently approaching.
