MK and Carla Monroe craft summertime single, ‘2AM’

MK and Carla Monroe took over radio airwaves with their 2017 single, “17,” and now, the artists are back with a new feel-good one-off, “2AM.” Monroe’s pop-leaning vocals open the song in tandem with a light build that encompasses the listener from the very first note. The track is an easy listen that has the capability to spike the energy of a dance party or stay stuck in a listener’s head far past its conclusion. MK weaves a pulsing baseline in and out of a steady piano melody with a tasteful blend of house notes to give the single electronic or mainstream pop listening appeal.

“2AM” follows a string of remixes put out by the producer this past month, including Ant Saunders’ “Miscommunications,” Jackson Wang’s “100 Ways,” and Katy Perry‘s “Daisies.” “2AM” is out on MK’s own AREA 10 label Ultra Music.

Make no mistake—dance music is born from black culture. Without black creators, innovators, selectors, and communities, the electronic dance music we hold so dear would simply not exist. In short, dance music is deeply indebted to the global black community and we need to be doing more. Black artists and artists of color have played a profound role in shaping the sound and culture of dance music and now more than ever, it is necessary for everyone in the music community to stand up for the people that have given us so much. Dancing Astronaut pledges to make every effort to be a better ally, a stronger resource, and a more accountable member of the global dance music community. Black Lives Matter—get involved here:
